Healthier Homes for All!!!
Let's get real - unhealthy homes are far too normalized. Mysterious toxins, like mold, hiding behind cute Pinterest facades. Risky electrical hazards and EMF exposure brushed aside as "that's how older wiring works". Musty smells excused away because a property looks nice on the outside and “mold is everywhere”.
We all deserve safe, consciously-curated living spaces that nurture our wellbeing. But securing a truly healthy home often feels dauntingly complex and out of reach. I am here to tell you that healthier living is accessible at any budget.
The approach I take now to living anywhere (whether it’s when we were renting, owning, or renovating) is grounded in "extreme ownership".
Does someone who is embarking on a custom build journey have more choices than someone who is not on that path? Sure. You can be proactive here and mitigate more risks that you won’t have to manage so closely down the road. But, EVERYONE can increase the health of their home by taking the steps that ARE available to them right now.
Let’s start at the beginning of the healthy home lifecycle—maybe you’re renting a home or apartment.
It might be true that you’re not able to make larger systems or structural changes on your own, but you CAN and SHOULD be maintaining the home. Even if it’s not in support of your personal financial investment in the home. It is absolutely in support of an investment in your own health.
It’s also in your best interest to get to know your home or apartment on an intimate level—
Where are your higher risk areas? Collect some data to determine how the space functions under stress (during inclement weather events, for example)
How can you incorporate regular visual checks to ensure there are no leaks compromising the integrity of your home?
You’re not reconfiguring the HVAC system here, but…
You CAN change the air filters regularly to protect the function of the system AND your indoor air quality.
You CAN add standalone HEPA filter units to each bedroom to increase the IAQ where it’s most critical—where you rest, repair, and relax.
When you find issues, your approach may be different if you’re renting v. if you own, but you are capable of identifying and escalating any issues you find to your landlord so that they can find a way to fix it or you get permission to fix it yourself (or maybe they’re really gracious like ours was and agree to split the costs of any issue you can’t live without, but they don’t necessarily HAVE to fix).
Join the waitlist for The Ultimate Home Maintenance Guide here to get the alert when this is ready for you and get more practical tips. I am going to make it available for a limited time to my email list BOTH on sale and at the price I originally advertised. After that, the price is going up.
This has literally taken me months to prepare—yes, it is THAT detailed.
Next, let’s say you want to move—into a new home or from apartment to home, maybe even considering custom at this point. You’re not quite sure yet. You are health conscious and are weighing all the options.
What can you afford (according BOTH to the bank and to your home maintenance accounts),
What risks are you trying to mitigate?
Which option is going to present LESS risk?
Here’s where you go check out the Conscious Strategy Sessions—we will weigh the pros and cons and develop a plan to get you confident in the next right step FOR YOU. It’s not the same for everyone, and that’s ok!
Now you’re ready to custom build, or seriously renovate—I’m talking you’re ready to see those studs (and not the male kind).
You say you want a “healthy home”, but that doesn’t mean the same thing to everyone (and it’s definitely NOT an industry defined term).
With the Consciously Custom Package, you’ll learn how to communicate what a “healthy home” means TO YOU.
We will get you polished up and ready to present to those high-performance builders who are experienced and capable of achieving the healthy home of your dreams. They’re in high-demand, but you’re their ideal client and you’re prepared to communicate just that to engage with your ideal partners.
You’re ready to show that know what you want, you know what it takes, and you even appreciate the level of craftmanship and experience the builder brings to the table to accomplish these big goals.
You’ll feel confident in knowing enough about the process that you’re completely relieved of any fears you’ve taken on from others who have not had such a smooth experience.
You will replace fear with knowledge and be fully capable of making all the decisions coming your way—and it will even be FUN!
Now that we have you hooked up with your ideal partners, the communication plan doesn’t stop here.
In fact, we’re just getting started.
Together, we can ensure that you’re both saying and hearing the same thing. We’ll memorialize your goals and specs in writing so everyone is on the exact same page
about how everyone expects this project will go,
the performance goals you’re looking to achieve,
how performance is going to be tested and verified, and
what to expect when things change like timelines, or material selections.
You’ll get the benefit of my experience as an expert communicator during this phase.
Maybe you don’t need an hour at a time and you’re not really sure exactly when you’ll want to talk. The retainer-based engagement gets you through phase-by-phase.
Just need assistance drafting the construction docs and getting down to the details? We can do that.
Want more time (and at a discounted hourly rate)? Perfect.
I can see you through the rest of the engagement for that extra assurance you need when unexpected things come up.
This part is completely customizable, but you get the benefit of a reduced hourly rate and priority booking when you select to engage with a retainer.
It’s the most common way lawyers engage, it guarantees efficiency and transparency in time used. You pay the fee up front and receive a monthly invoice showing how much time was billed towards the retainer and the reminder “in the bank”. Engagements never expire, so use it anytime.
Healthier homes are for EVERYONE. I will die on that hill.
By taking extreme ownership over our living environments through investing in your education and proactively preparing yourself to be an informed client ready to make decisions only YOU know are best for you, everyone can progress towards non-toxic spaces – whether renting an apartment or building new construction.
Prepare to make the everyday choices to champion the homes you deserve.
My support is available to you wherever you are in your journey and when you’re ready to invest in yourself to go out there and get the healthy home of your dreams.
Stay conscious and curious, friends.
