Water Management
I recommend the following tools to help you manage water in your home. Not just bulk water (i.e. water coming from plumbing leaks and rain), but also vapor or condensation management.
Don’t forget your FREE resources (your eyes, nose, and ears). Scan up, down, and all around for signs of peeling paint, musty smells, warping baseboards, cupping floors, etc. to help you assess your home’s water management.
Under sink mat - expect and prepare for plumbing leaks
4500 sq ft dehumidifier - keep humidity on average under 55% RH to mitigate for self-originating molds
Our skin is our largest organ. Wash and drink clean, filtered, mineralized water. Greenfield Water Filters - Code "CHH" for 10% off
Hygrometer to monitor relative humidity (keep below 55% on average)
Dew Point Calculator - use this free resource to calculate the point at which condensation will form on a material and work to avoid it by adjusting your temperature and/or RH.
Battery operated water alarms - place these under plumbing or water sources to alert you to leaks
Pinless Moisture Meter to detect the moisture content of building materials without destruction (great for renters)
Whole Home Leak Detection - automatic water shut off
Thermal Camera - use this to detect temperature differentials, which may be caused by water or air leaks
Certified lab water testing for your home!
